2008 Grand National Runners
Handicaps for the Grand National are established in late February, and the odds quoted below are subject to change. For all the latest Grand National odds visit William Hill.
Point Barrow
Point Barrow has all the class needed to win the 2008 Grand National at Aintree. The Irish horse entered the 2007 Grand National as one of the favourites, but disappointed with a fall at the very first fence. Don’t be deceived by this performance, as Point Barrow has proved his class in several other races including a win at the 2006 Irish National. Racing mainly in Ireland, Point Barrow has an excellent record in Chases with 5 wins from 17 starts. Bookies give this Grand National runner at 25-1 odds to claim his first victory over 4 miles at Aintree in April 2008.
Neptune Collonges
French-born Neptune Collonges has one of the best National Hunt chase records of the runners in the 2008 Grand National, including a Punchestown Gold Cup. Like many French horses he does particularly well on soft turf, and some believe that this combined with the heavy weights that are likely to accompany his excellent form will put him at a severe disadvantage. However wise punters won’t write this horse off, with 7 wins from 11 chase starts the 33-1 odds don’t to justice to this classy horse’s abilities.
Numbersixvalverde
The winner of the 2006 Grand National at Aintree also has the 2005 Irish Grand National title to his name. Excellent form in the 2006 season saw Numbersixvalverde entering the 2007 Grand National carrying extra weight. The Grand National runner put in a strong performance and managed to finish the race in 6th place. Punters are hoping that the handicappers are not quite so hard on this Irish bay in 2008, as he has all the qualities needed to win a second Grand National at 33/1 odds.
Joes Edge
If you enjoy betting on outside favourites at high odds, Joes Edge is the2008 Grand National runner of choice. The Irish born horse has a habit of defying the odds, and already has a major title to his name as winner of the 2005 Scottish National. Joes Edge also won the William Hill Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival in March at 50-1 odds. He was expected to put in a good performance at the 2007 Grand National but finished unplaced. 2008 will be Joes Edge’s third Grand National and he is 33/1 to take the title.
