2009 Grand National Runners

Handicaps for the Grand National are established in late February, and the odds quoted below are subject to change. For all the latest Grand National Odds visit William Hill.

Snowy Morning: Snowy Morning finished an impressive 3rd at the 2008 Grand National and is back again in the 2009 edition of the race to see if he can improve on this result. While his connections may be hoping he's got it in him to win this race, his stats suggest otherwise as he hasn't won a chase since performing well in novices chases earlier in his career. With a weight of over 11st thrown into the mix there's little to suggest that Snowy Morning will finish in the money at the 2009 Grand National.

Kilbeggan Blade: Killbeggan Blade is an interesting prospect for the Grand National. Counting in his favour is the fact that he's carrying a reasonable handicap into the 2009 Grand National, and is also one of the few runners in the field who can boast a win over a distance greater than 3 miles 5 furlongs. However, he is untested against top quality opposition will want soft ground to run at his best in the Grand National.

L'Ami: This French raider is one of the most experienced racehorses in the Grand National field. He goes into the race with a low handicap relative to his rating, and with a recent win to his name. Counting in his favour is adaptability to a wide variety of ground conditions. Counting against him is the fact that he's never travelled a distance of greater than 3 miles 1 furlong for a win.

Hot Weld: Hot Weld's record suggests that he's one of the long odds Grand National entries who has the potential to cause a big upset in the race. With a win over 4 miles 1 furlong to his credit there's no question about his staying power, and he's proven that he's a big race winner by winning the 2007 Scottish Grand National and 2007 Betfair Gold Cup. However, he's only recently returned to racing since missing out on the 2008 season, and has been pulled up in both of his races this year.

Parson's Legacy: Parson's Legacy is a classy Irish stayer whoshould have no problem dealing with the firmer ground conditions at Aintree, and has the ability stay on for the 4 mile 4 furlong trip around Aintree. However, his recent form hasn't been particularly impressive and he hasn't won a race since 2008. At the age of 11 he's also pushing the upper age limit for Grand National winners. These factors suggest that he's a reasonable option for a place, but would need to run the race of his life to win the 2009 Grand National.
