The Melling Chase
The Melling Chase is one of the Grade 1 chase highlights of the Aintree Festival, and is run on the same day as the Grand National. The event is run over a distance of 2 miles 4 furlongs by 5-year-old and above racehorses, and tends to feature racehorses that competed in the Cheltenham Festival's Queen Mother Champion Chase.
The Melling Chase was first run in 1991 and is named after the neighbouring village of Melling. The race has held Grade 1 status throughout its history, and has been won by a number of Queen Mother Champion Chase champions during this time.
